The 66th Cannes Film Festival paid tribute to a silver screen legend last night, with a screening of the new digitally re-mastered version of Joseph L. Mankiewicz's Cleopatra. Painstakingly restored by Twentieth Century Fox, the film saw the start of the famously passionate relationship between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton and was shown last night at Cannes for the first time since being remastered, alongside an exhibition of costumes and Bulgari jewelry from the film. American actress Jessica Chastain brought a little Elizabeth Taylor spirit to the red carpet in the form of the deep blue sapphire pendant given to her in 1972 by Richard Burton, for her 40th birthday. Jessica paired it with the Trombino ring, also from the Elizabeth Taylor collection as the golden age of Hollywood came to life in Cannes.
