The German designer’s most memorable quotes are the
subject of a book edited by Patrick Mauriès and Jean-Christophe Napias,
and published by Flammarion.
Creative director at Fendi womenswear since 1977, Chanel since 1983 and his own eponymous label since 1998, Karl Lagerfeld’s creativity is shown collection after collection, season after season. Another factor in the creation of the Lagerfeld myth,
however, are his Karlisms, the biting witticisms that have been around
the world and back again including such memorable quotes as “luxury is
having a free spirit, being independent - in short, being politically
incorrect” and “I think tattoos are horrible, it’s like wearing a Pucci dress
for life”, now compiled and edited by the author and translator
Jean-Christophe Napias, under the direction of journalist and editor
Patrick Mauriès. They will be published in book form by Flammarion on
September 25 in a volume illustrated by artist Charles Ameline. If you
can’t wait a few more months, a small taster selection of these mythical
sound bites is available on www.karl.com.The World According to Karl by Patrick Mauriès and Jean-Christophe Napias, Flammarion, available from September 25.
